Miss Mona House, later Mrs Randolph F. Tucker (b. 1882).

Biog: elder daughter of Edward Mandell House, American diplomat; m. (1905) Randolph F. Tucker.

Miss Mona House (b. 1882) was the elder daughter of Edward Mandell House, American diplomat and adviser to President Woodrow Wilson. Her father was so sympathetic and helpful in negotiating the independence of Poland in 1918 that the pianist and Prime Minister of Poland, Ignacy Paderewski, erected in his honour a statue in Warsaw.

During her family’s trip to Europe in 1904, Mona was presented at the Court on 22 June by Mrs. Choate, wife of the United States Ambassador. She wore an ivory satin gown softened with chiffon and silver embroideries, the skirt arranged in a series of box pleats caught up with silver ornaments. Her transparent train of silver embroidered tulle came from the shoulder and was trimmed with tulle ruches. She remarked afterward that “all that kept her eyes from coming out on little sticks was her wonderful self-control”.

In 1905, Mona married a financier, Randolph F. Tucker. They had one daughter Jane, and one son Randolph Tucker Jr., who at the age of 21 was killed in a tragic car accident.
