1. Although the date marked on this negative is 18 December 1926, the photograph was probably taken the previous day. The date would have been written on the negative when it was processed, rather than when it was made. A study of Court dress photographs in the collection suggests that sitters who had attended a formal ceremony at Buckingham Palace preferred to be photographed on the same day in order to avoid the unnecessary inconvenience of putting on an elaborate uniform a second time
