Biog: Entered Grenadier Guards 1914; Lieutenant 1915; acting Captain 1917; Personal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for War 1924-1926.

"Geoffrey Frederick Robert Hirst was born in 1895.

He was the son of Robert Frederick Hankey Hirst.

He married, firstly, Ina Margaret Lindner, daughter of Ernst Robert Lindner and Ina Violet Logie-Pirie, in 1920. He married Phyllis Mary Mitchell, daughter of John Wodehouse Mitchell, in 1936.

He was educated at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, England. He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England. He fought in the First World War.

He was decorated with the award of the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1918.

He retired from the military in 1920, with the rank of Captain, late of the Grenadier Guards.

He was personal private secretary to Secretary of State for War between 1925 and 1926."
