        Jack Hylton (1892-1965) 
          and his band were considered the premier European show band of the 1920s 
          and 30s, appearing on continental Europe and achieving the honour of 
          being the first British band to broadcast to the United States. 
 
        H ylton was famous both 
          for presenting symphonic concert arrangements and for his impressive 
          stage effects. Musical highlights of the 
          band's recording career were Button Up Your Overcoat, and a concert 
          arrangement of Handsome Gigolo. The band made many top-selling 
          recordings, and between 1923 and 1933 they sold over seven million records.
