(Duke) "...costume carried out in black velvet and white satin with silver embroideries." (Pall Mall Gazette, 3 July 1897, p 7b).
(Duchess) "...white satin, veiled with lisse wrought with silver, and wearing a silver cloth mantle embroidered with pearls and diamonds. She wore fair curls at either side of the face and a splendid arrangement of diamonds and emeralds on her hair, while her high collar was of silver lace." (The Daily Telegraph, 3 July 1897, p 9f).
