Biog: (Hon. Mrs Devereux) Younger daughter of John Shaw, of Weburn Hall, Yorks; m. (1892) Robert Charles, 17th Viscount Hereford, s.(1930).

Date: 25 May 1900.

Occasion: The Drawing Room, 25 May 1900: Miss Mabel Alves presented by Hon. Mrs. Devereux.

Location: The Lafayette Studio, 179 New Bond Street, London.

Descr: (Hon. Mrs. Devereux) FL seated; (Miss M. Alves) FL standing.

Costume: Court dresses:

(Hon. Mrs. Devereux) "...gown of black chantilly lace was trimmed with lace insertions, closely pailletted; the bodice was trimmed with garlands of roses and Neapolitan violets; the soft black train was profusely trimmed with chiffon and draped with Brussels point" (see: The Queen, 2 June 1900, p 896c).

(Miss M. Alves) "Court gown, a charming example of the prevailing Empire style, of soft soie de Chine, arranged with a lovely bordering of embossed velvet in soft colourings and entredeux of soft lace over frou frou petticoat of white chiffon, with a faint blush of pink showing through; Court train of satin duchesse, having a garland of roses falling from the huge bow of satin from which the train was hung" (see: The Court Journal, 26 May 1900, p 780a).
